How we support people

Once we are clear someone is experiencing their first episode of psychosis we can support them for up to three years.

During this time we will build a supportive relationship and learn more about what they are experiencing.   We will suggest using specific clinical assessments and develop a psychological formulation that will help identify ways of supporting and treating their psychosis.   Where it is helpful to the client, and with their consent, we will engage with family, partner or close friends at an early stage.

We can offer a variety of support and treatment.   We always discuss options with the young person and respect their choices.

Recommended interventions are:
  • Helping people to make sense of their experiences
  • Cognitive behaviour therapy
  • Family interventions
  • Specialist psychological interventions
  • Prescribed low doses of anti-psychotic medication
  • Practical support linked with housing
  • Education and employment
  • Finances
We also offer emotional and social support, either on an individual basis or through group activities.

Each aspire client has a named case worker who is responsible for planning and organising support and will act as their care programme approach coordinator.   The client will also be allocated to a particular team and may receive support from
different members of that team during the time we work with them.

We focus on a philosophy of Engagement, Hope and Recovery.
